office building is located in historic Falmouth next to the
Belmont Plantation. The building was originally built in the 18th
century as Basil Gordon's cotton warehouse.
John T. Simpson first purchased the
historic building in 1988 and proceeded to spend over half a million dollars renovating and rebuilding
it. "Everything from the entrance sign to the window frames were done according to the county's historic guidelines."
Stabilizing the building was a major concern. The structural modifications necessary to strengthen the structure consumed half of the overall
cost of the building. It took the contractor almost a year to install all the steel reinforcements.
The owners,
John and
Harrison, are very pleased with the results. The inside of the building compliments its surroundings.
A multitude of windows combined with moss green carpet, light colored walls and wide open areas, give the building a light airy feeling.
As life time members of the area,
John and
Harrison say that the community has been good to them. They feel
that by restoring the old warehouse building, they are giving something back to the area. "It was a labor of love."
